Facebook chat is highly addictive especially when you have hundreds of friends. But using it within FB chat is quite cumbersome. Brower extensions and IM for desktop  are here to your rescue.

For Chrome

Install the addon. Once installed, click on the chat button in menu bar. You have tolog into your Facebook account. Press the button again, and you should find the Facebook chat window open there.

For Firefox

Add a bookmark for URL www.facebook.com/presence/popout.php in firefox. right-click on the bookmark from the Bookmarks menu, and click on Properyies. Set it to load the bookmark in the sidebar. Open the bookmark and it’ll load in the Firefox sidebar.
